Carnet Categories In Japan
ATA Carnets are needed for temporary export to Japan and remain valid for a year. Carnets are accepted for professional equipment, commercial samples and goods to be shown at exhibitions, or fairs.
The video gives a feeling for business formality in Japan, which applies to customs procedures. You will find staff friendly, polite and knowledgeable on the ATA carnet system but having paperwork in order helps.
Meeting Customs Requirements
At a personal level, any customs declaration forms, or embarkation cards you are given should be correctly completed.
Where goods on an ATA carnet are restricted for import, or export, a separate permit may be required. Please contact Japanese Customs for details, or our staff will advise.
Additional Carnet Options
Carnets are accepted for transit operations in Japan and for postal goods. You will normally deal with an international branch of The Japan Post Service.
They need to check the validity of your carnet and may ask to see other documents relating to the items. All documents must be in English, or Japanese.
Using & Protecting Your Carnet
During the 12 months your carnet remains valid, this can be used for multiple trips to and from Japan. Much easier than repeatedly completing unfamiliar customs forms.
Not losing, or misplacing your carnet keeps that benefit. Replacements carnets are okay in most countries but an issue in Japan.
As with any hitch during a journey, Dynamic Dox staff will be there to help our clients and may be able to. We still suggest treating an ATA Carnet for Japan as you would your passport, which is the role this plays for your goods.
Enjoying Your Trip To Japan
Your carnet may help, by overcoming any language barriers and avoiding the need to pay local duties, or taxes on goods.
Japan is also a great place to do business and to experience. A country of contrasts, from cities having every inch packed with ads, to spaces for quiet contemplation.
