Few places are perfect in the current global economy but overall, the Philippines is a land of business potential.
With their Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the guaranteeing association and government support, the Philippines joined the ATA carnet family 15th July 2024.
They will accept carnets for professional equipment, business exhibitions and commercial samples, along with educational, scientific or cultural purposes. Not much that you would want to take is likely to be a problem.
ATA Carnet Procedures
ATA carnets for the Philippines will be valid for one year and can be used for freight, or hand carried items. They are not able to be used for postal traffic, or goods in transit to other destinations.
Customs offices at all main points of entry are authorised to accept ATA carnets and open 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. At international airports, hand carried goods and accompanied air cargo can be cleared 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Local customs staff are trained in carnet use and tend to be helpful. They have been instructed to stick to the ATA carnet principles, that goods must be imported for a specific purpose and intended for re-export.
Islands Of Opportunity
The Philippines is a collection of over 7,000 islands, with a wonderful diversity of people, flora and fauna. This helps to create an emerging market with many opportunities and support to help with growth is welcomed.
The change from an agricultural economy to industrialisation has begun. Their exports include integrated circuits, office machinery, or related parts, electrical transformers, insulated wiring and semiconductors.
The Philippines are members of the World Trade Organization, ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and the East Asia Summit. Leading members, with GDP in excess of £400 billion and a population of 115 million.
International trade fairs are held regularly, covering the building sector, electronics, manufacturing, medical equipment, renewable energy and more. ATA carnets will make attending them a more pleasant experience.
